B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering is an academic program designed by IKGPTU Jalandhar which is a combination of two major branches of engineering, i.e one is Electronics and other is Communication. It is one of the largest and fastest growing sectors of the present industry. Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is offering technology oriented courses and creating manpower in the strategic areas well compatible with the industrial expectations. The main vision of the department is to mould tomorrow’s technocrats by imbibing the essence of human values for innovation and creativity in science and technology towards building a peaceful self-sustaining Nation.
The department envisages the wide spectrum of areas including, design, fabrication, production, testing and manufacture of complex products and systems. Department realize the requirements of equipments and components for major industries, including the medical, automotive, robotic, computer and networking sectors and other applied areas focusing towards making brighter career path
For Regular Course - All those candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from a recognized University or Board
For Lateral Entry- Passed 3 year Diploma from recognized University or Board.
This Program is divided into eight semesters. The first year i.e 1st and second semester are common for all the branches of engineering and offer applied science subjects which are compulsory to all students. In second year i.e 3rd and 4th semester all subjects are compulsory and are related to basics of electronics. Students also get knowledge of Human values and environmental science area. In third year i.e in 5th and 6th semester most of subjects are communication subjects that includes analog and digital communication, wireless communication, optical communication and some elective subjects. In fourth year i.e in 7th and 8th semester most of the subjects are elective subjects with few mandatory Courses like Constitution of India and Essence of Indian Traditional Knowledge. One major project by students need to completed in two stages by completing first stage in semester 7th and second stage in semester 8th
The major areas on which Electronics and communication engineer can work are Communication & Signal Processing, Networking, Control systems & Robotics, Computer vision & Image processing, Nanotechnology, Remote Sensing, Biomedical electronics etc.
Companies for placement: A graduate in ECE can apply for the post of an engineer with the state government, the central government and the public sector. Central services like Indian Engineering Service (IES), Indian Telephone Industries, BSNL/ MTNL, Civil Aviation Department, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., HPCL / BPCL / IPCL, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Bharat Electronics Limited, Indian Railways, ISRO, DRDO and the Defence services offer exciting careers. Private sector opportunities exist in profusion, in the Semiconductor industry, VLSI design industry, Software industry including MNCs, Computer related fields and in the Telecom Sector including mobile computing, hardware and networking.
